We recognise the importance of
having a high quality doe herd to both produce the quality mohair that
keeps the enterprise profitable and to breed elite animals. Although
we have made wonderful gains we still have some work to do to get to having
a large herd of our perfect Angoras.
We believe that in order for
the Angora to thrive in Australia selection for faster growth, large frame
and strong bone is critical, and that selection for mohair should not take
priority of the ability to survive, produce and reproduce. The Angora
is the most prolific fibre producer in the world, which allows to focus on
improving quality rather than quantity of mohair grown.
We are now selecting for fine,
long mohair and increased body weight and do not actively select for fleece
weight. Our breeding objective is simple: a fine, long and well
defined staple that is even from front to back on a large, robust animal
with absolute freedom from pigment and harsh fibre
Our comittment to quality has
never been stronger |
