The farm is situated
about 12 km north of Hopetoun, a small country town of 600 people.
Benjamin Ferguson first purchased part of the property in 1919, he was
succeeded by his two sons, Wal and Joe who also purchased neighbouring land
to increase the scale of the operation. The farm is now run by Wal's
son Lawrence (Wal) Ferguson and his wife Judy who have also increased the
size of the property. They farm alongside their youngest son Tim, who
manages the livestock on the property and assists with the cropping
program. Tim is the fourth generation to farm at what we now call
Mallee Park. |
| The main enterprise
on Mallee Park is cereal and pulse grain production, barley, wheat and
field peas are grown annually along with lupins, ryecorn and oats in some
years. |
 |
 |
Although the Mallee
can be very hot and dry in the summer months, it is also amazingly
responsive to rain. The Mallee has a beauty all of its own and is
known for its sensational sunsets. The Livestock thrive in the mild
conditions. |

| The
extreme at Mallee Park, a terrible dust storm common in late summer and a
beautiful sun rise. |
 |
 |
| Alongside the sheep
and goats we run a few cattle. |
Two male Alpacas
were purchased in 2000 for predator protection, they are run with the sheep
at lambing time and the goats at kidding time. |
